Does Boston Broadband have data caps?

No. Every plan is unlimited, on every tier, with no overage charge and no threshold at which we slow your connection down.

No. There is no data cap on any Boston Broadband plan. Every residential tier is unlimited, and so is every business tier.

A data cap is a monthly allowance — a number of gigabytes you are permitted before something happens. What happens next is usually one of three things, and none of the three applies here:

That is true whether you are on Base 300 at $30/mo or on 10 Gig at $300/mo, and it is true in both directions — uploads are not metered separately.

What we do not do to your traffic

We are network neutral. We do not throttle any particular service, and we do not inspect your traffic for advertising purposes. There is no separate treatment for video, for game traffic, or for anyone else's streaming platform. The formal version is our open internet disclosure.

Because the connection is symmetrical, the upload half is not the one that runs out first either — why symmetrical speeds matter explains what that changes in practice.

So what can appear on the bill

Your plan price, and the optional $10/mo Wi-Fi router if you rent one. Nothing usage-based. What are the charges on my bill? goes through the lines one at a time, and how much does Boston Broadband cost? covers it before you sign up.

If a connection has slowed down, it is not a cap being enforced — start with why is my speed test slower than my plan?.

If that didn’t work

Email [email protected] and we will look at your line. There is no allowance for us to check, so if it is slow, something else is wrong and we want to find it.
