What are the charges on my bill?

Your bill is your monthly plan price plus the optional $10/mo Wi-Fi router if you rent one — and because Massachusetts does not tax internet service, bring your own router and your plan price is the whole bill.

Most bills have two or three lines. Here is what each one is.

Your plan. This is the monthly price for your speed tier:

PlanSpeedPrice
Base 300300 Mbps$30/mo
Core 500500 Mbps$60/mo
Gigabit1,000 Mbps$80/mo
2 Gig2,000 Mbps$100/mo
10 Gig10,000 Mbps$300/mo

All five are symmetrical, with unlimited data and no contract.

Wi-Fi router — $10/mo, optional. If you rent our TP-Link HX510, it is a separate $10/mo line, and it is taxable, because it is an equipment rental. If you rent a router from us, it is a separate $10/mo line. It is available on Base 300, Core 500, and Gigabit. 2 Gig and 10 Gig are bring-your-own-router, so those accounts never carry this charge. If you use your own router, you will not see this line at all — our handoff is a standard RJ45 Ethernet port or SFP, so any router plugs straight into the wall.

Taxes. Here is the part worth reading closely, because it is unusual and it is in your favor.

Internet service is not taxed in Massachusetts. The $30, $60, $80, $100 or $300 on the table above is what you pay for the service. No state sales tax is added to it, and there is no pile of line items underneath it with names invented by a billing department.

What is taxed is equipment rental and labor. So:

For most households the practical result is simple: if you bring your own router, your bill is your plan price and nothing else. If you rent ours, it is your plan price plus $10 and tax on that $10 — not on the whole bill.

Not a statement about Business Voice. Separately, "taxes and fees included" applies only to the $45/mo Cloud PBX extension. That is a phone product and its own arrangement — do not read it as a description of internet billing.

What you will not see: no data-overage charges, no contract or term fee, and no installation charge — professional installation is free. Both have their own answer: does Boston Broadband have data caps? and does Boston Broadband require a contract?.
